RICK'S HURRICANE CHECK LIST

 ALERT prepare inventory on this list as a minimum LIST

____ Medicine supply
____ White gas or propane tanks for lanterns and stoves (dual fuel stove & lanterns can use regular gas cheap to operate)
____ ESTABLISH A CONTACT PLAN where to meet friends and family where to leave messages should the phone systems go down.
____ SECURE LOOSE OBJECTS OUTSIDE.  get rid of loose objects as they become projectiles in a hurricane.
____ check SUMP PUMP and backup power, clear filters, do a test run if not used regularly
____ fill empty milk cartons and freeze for ice blocks, will give you enough time to slowly deplete refrigerated items over a few days if long power outage occurs.
____ start taking food and supply inventory and purchase whats missing
____ backup computer data and store in safe place while you still have power

____ have a wireline telephone that doesn't run from AC power

 IMMINENT move to safe area if likely to hit. Depending on Hurricane Category level you may not be able to shelter in place and have to relocate to a public shelter.

____ portable aircompressor /battery booster from COSTCO is recommended. charge it up if not charged
____ GENERATOR  monthly test run to keep it in shape, use the fuel preservative additive to stop the fuel from gumming up. cycle gas supply as much as possible
____ GAS up AUTOMOBILES
____ SPARE GAS for generator/ and have spare oil supply
____ WATER (2 weeks) MINIMUM
____ FOOD (2 weeks) MINIMUM
____ Store valuables in ice chest(waterproof)
____ store STILL PICTURES in zip loc bags in waterproof containers as Military Ammo Cans, Pelican Cases etc.
____ store VIDEO CAMERA TAPES in zip loc bags in waterproof containers as Military Ammo Cans, Pelican Cases etc.
____ store HOUSE PAPERWORK insurance policies, titles, ownership papers certificates etc in zip loc bags in waterproof containers as Military Ammo Cans, Pelican Cases etc.
____ take PHOTOS of INTERIOR of house for insurance purposes. (turn on date stamp if camera has one)
____ DOG FOOD/MEDICINE store enough to handle isolation for 2 weeks
____ DOG LEASH/COLLAR (NOTE: animals not allowed in evacuation shelters, may affect your decision of sheltering)
____ additionally fill bath tub, trash cans etc. for as much (NON POTABLE WATER)
____ can goods, non perishable foods write dates on cans when purchased, rotate inventory to always have stock
